Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR)
Many governments have examined their legislative choices in response to the growing amounts of trash, and they have come to the conclusion that it may be possible to hold producers accountable for the post-consumer stage of some products. A legislative concept known as Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) assigns producers substantial financial and/or physical accountability for the handling or disposal of post-consumer goods. In theory, assigning such responsibility might support the accomplishment of public recycling and materials management goals, encourage environmentally friendly product design, and offer incentives to reduce waste at its source.
According to the E-waste management rule of 2016, which the CPCB made public, producers must adhere to EPR in accordance with their market share.
